Where Friends Become Family

Written by Avery ‘Hammer’ Fisk: Lazy F Camp Summer 2019

Dear Future Camper,

Coming and working at Lazy F Camp this summer has enabled me to try lots of new things this summer that I would not have done before, or even think about doing. I’ve tried the zip-line, archery, fishing, and I got to sleep in teepees! Camp has taught me to get out of my comfort zone.

In trying all these new things, I never did it alone; the other counselors were there to encourage me. I have come to see the other counselors and staff as not just new friends, but as family. Throughout the summer I have seen this same thing happen with campers. All the campers start off as strangers in the beginning, but by the end of the week have become friends and like a small family.

Over the summer I have come to love many things about Lazy F. I love that camp is away from the city. It has given me a chance to rejuvenate from the stresses of the city and responsibilities that I have. I love that I get to be in nature all the time and that it surrounds me. I love the noise of the creek that runs through the middle of camp. However, the thing I love and have learned about Lazy F is that here kids feel like they are in a safe place that lets them open and be themselves with other campers.

I hope to see you at Lazy F camp one day!
