Its Ok, I Get Homesick Too

Written by Hayley ‘Juice’ Galla: Lazy F Camp Summer 2019

Dear Future Camper,

G’day, all the way from Sydney, Australia! I’m so glad you found us and are currently reading this blog post. After a few long flights, I have finally arrived at this gorgeous place they call “Lazy F Camp”. This is my third summer as a camp counselor in the USA. I have worked at camps all over the country in areas like Upstate New York and Wisconsin. I have to say “Lazy F” is BY FAR the best camp I have been to with it’s beautiful and native surroundings. Every morning I wake up and hear the birds chirping, the flowing creek, the crackling of the campfire at night, and children laughing all day.

A little bit about myself, I have been a counselor for two summers and this summer, at Lazy F, I am the “activities coordinator”. This includes planning and running evening games for the children. I enjoy sports, performing arts, and the adventure of the outdoors. Back home in Australia I run a children’s playcentre and spend my spare time exploring new adventures. Every summer I look forward to exploring my wonderful faith through God’s love which reminds me that I can accomplish anything.

As an international counselor, it’s hard being away from friends, family and the relationships I have back home. YES! I get homesick too! However, I could not feel more at HOME here at Lazy F. The friends I have made here I will keep in contact with for the rest of my life. Children’s lives are changed here forever. It is truly a magical place. In Australia, summer camps are not common, and I struggle to find a way to describe what camp is truly like because you won’t know unless you have been. There’s just something about camp that brings me back every summer.

A thought to end on,

The tan lines may fade, but the memories will last forever.

Blessings and Love,

Juice
