Winter Family Camp:
Friday February 18th to Sunday 20th, 2011
Family
camp is a chance for you to bring your whole family together for a
weekend of fun, faith, and fellowship. Over the weekend, we
will bring in some inspiriting speakers / pastors, offer our best
winter time programming, and try to create all-inclusive options for
everyone in your family. For you and your family that means:
good wholesome fun for everyone, good fellowship, no cooking or
dishes, a welcoming community, and everyone stays "unplugged"
because cell phones don't work here.
Here is our theme and staff for 2010, come back to see what is in store for 2011
There’s no shortage of books,
magazine articles and preachers who will tell you how important it is to
spend quality time as a family. Most of them offer ‘helpful
suggestions like: have a family game night every week; tell your boss
you can’t work late; get everyone to help make the family dinner; avoid
evening meetings; say ‘no’ to extracurricular activities like: organized
sports, civic clubs, and dance or music lessons; and of course, TURN OFF
THE TUBE! Though we might agree in principle, most of us just end
up feeling guilty for not being able to make any lasting changes.
If this sounds familiar, this year’s Winter Family Camp might be the perfect weekend for you. Our theme will be Family life on the ‘tube’: downhill adventure or uphill climb. Instead of getting another dose of guilt, come learn and share strategies that might help everyone in your family ‘enjoy the ride of your family’s life together.’ Don’t worry about making plans to ‘change everything’ when you get home. Just enjoy the fact that you can say you spent a weekend on the ‘tube’ instead of in front of it.
Let's Talk Value... Now-a-days, how can one do anything with their family without it costing them an "arm and a leg"? Movies and a meal - ouch! Afternoon skiing, lift tickets and meals - yikes! How about an all inclusive weekend of lodging, meals, and programming where the whole family actually comes together and has quality time? What's Visa say?..."Priceless"?
Hosting Pastor :
Reverend Brad Beeman
Brad Beeman grew
up in the Pacific Northwest and spent most summers at Lazy F with
his family. Over his years of ministry, Pacific Northwest
Conference camping has always been a high priority. Brad
deaned age level camps at three of our conference sites, developed
and led father - son, family, and leadership retreats throughout his
thirty years of ministry. Now in his eighteenth year of
pastoral ministry he returns to the camp he loves to help host this
family retreat. Brad has just returned to the Northwest after
seven years in Southern California. While there he completed
his seminary education and was ordained elder in the California
Pacific Annual Conference. He came back to be closer to family
and to return to his beloved Northwest. He is pastor at Auburn
First United Methodist church and has served there for the past year
and a half.. Brad's background is in risk-focused prevention.
He served as a national director for the Seattle based Developmental
Research and Programs, and then as a consultant to a variety of
organizations including a White House task force on Parenting as
Prevention. For years he traveled the country talking about
how families and communities can protect children and youth from
things like gang involvement, drug use, and other potential threats.
He will bring some of that expertise to this weekend retreat.
Brad is married and has four children. They are all looking
forward to the great fun we'll have together on this family weekend.
Featured Speaker : Rev. Kelly
Dahlman-Oeth
As an ordained
United Methodist Pastor, Rev. Kelly Dahlman-Oeth served as an
administrator in two United Methodist seminaries before to parish
ministry. In 1998, Kelly, his wife, Whitney and their then
one-year old twin daughters, Erin and Bridget, left Chicago to serve
Browns Point United Methodist Church in Tacoma. During the
eight and a half wonderful years at BPUMC, they helped increase
church attendance, adding one (Blaine) and then another (Andrew)
baby boy.
In 2007, they moved to Kirkland to accept a new
appointment. Kelly considers it yet another blessing to love the
people of Lake Washington United Methodist Church. Whitney works
as a registered nurse at Providence Hospital in Everett. Erin
(11), Bridget (11), Blaine (8) and Andrew (6) are all in the same
elementary school (for one year.)
The Dahlman-Oeth’s love camp! In their twelve
years in the PACNW conference, they’ve lost count of their camping
adventures. Kelly and Whitney brought toddler girls and then baby
boys to Ocean Park when Kelly served as co-dean of a couple of mid-high
camps. The whole family enjoyed Browns Point UMC’s summer
All-Church Retreats at Ocean Park and Lazy F, and they were all relieved
when they found out that Lake Washington UMC has a similar tradition at
Lazy F.
The Dahlman-Oeth’s can’t decide which they love more being at Lazy F in the summer or the winter. They’re glad they don’t have to choose!
